Religious Organizations
Notwithstanding the constitutionally mandated separation between church and state, religious organizations remain subject to numerous federal, state and local laws with respect to their formation and operation. Often, these laws attempt to modify the rules ordinarily applied to other tax-exempt organizations to take into account both the separation of church and state and the various denominational rules imposed by most religions. Our lawyers routinely represent churches, synagogues and other types of religious organizations in connection with compliance with these laws, and, in particular, how to reconcile civil law with religious doctrinal law.
